HSAS&F Response to COVID-19

HSC Colleagues:

First and foremost thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we adjust our operational and support services to meet the demands of the University’s COVID-19 pandemic response.  In an effort to ensure the health and safety of Health Sciences Center complex occupants, and in accordance with Governor Inslee’s directives and President Cauce’s operational guidelines, please review and share the following Health Science Administration Services and Facilities and our partners operational and service changes with your school/department/program representatives.  HSAS&F is working to support our stakeholders during this difficult time, if you need anything please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Access to HSC Classrooms and Special Events Spaces – Exemption Request Process

  • Special exemptions to HSC classrooms and special event spaces are permitted for COVID-19 response and critical activities pending Dean/Chair level justification. Once critical space request is approved by Dean/Chair, please submit COVID-19 Response Space Request to Lacey Racich, HSAS&F Director, at laceyc2@uw.edu for review and approval.

Building Management and Security

  • A Husky Card or HS Access Badge is required to access the Health Sciences Center complex, including the South Campus Center and Foege buildings.
  • HS Building Management is operating with limited on-site staff, therefore all services are by appointment only.  Appointments may be requested in advance by emailing hsbuild@uw.edu or calling 206-685-0143, ext. 7.  Because of limited staffing, there may not be anyone in the office if one hasn’t made an appointment.
  • Photos for access or ID badges must be submitted electronically.  BACs should continue to request badges online.  Then, either attach a photo to the request or the end user may email a picture to us at hsbuild@uw.edu.  Please send a passport-style head shot (selfies are okay) with an empty, neutral colored background.
  • Health Sciences Security personnel will remain on-duty evenings, nights and weekends and may be reached at 206-543-9999.

Classroom Services     

  • All HSC classrooms, conference rooms, lecture halls, and teaching labs have been locked after being cleaned, disinfected and sanitized.  Special event spaces are also closed.
  • Classroom Services staff will no longer provide in-person support for general questions or equipment and room reservation requests.
  • Reservation arrangements and questions can be addressed via email at crshelp@uw.edu or phone call at 206-543-6729.
  • Classroom Services will continue to support equipment pickup/drop-off by appointment only.  Appointments may be requested in advance by emailing crshelp@uw.edu or calling 206-543-6729.
  • Any event scheduled during Spring Quarter may cancel with no fees. Contact Classroom Services (crshelp@uw.edu) to confirm event status.
  • Effective March 23, 2020, all public and private gatherings are prohibited by order of Governor Jay Inslee. The restriction is in effect until May 4, 2020, and may be extended pending public health guidance.  All official UW events should be canceled, postponed or converted to remote participation.
  • Course location information: Since no in-person instruction is permitted Spring Quarter, course location information has been removed from Time Schedule and 25Live to allow CRS staff to manage, track and report C-19 activities in the Health Sciences Center complex (HSC, SCC, Foege) and to ensure that no rooms are double-booked and that building occupants are aware of C-19 activities in the complex.

  • For additional or specific needs in the Health Sciences Center complex, please don’t hesitate to contact us.  We will work closely with the curriculum support teams within each school to provide possible solutions.

Lab Services

  • Lab Services is currently open to process biowaste and provide dishwashing and sterilization services.  The lab is only open for deliveries and pickups between the hours of 9:00-11:00 am and 2:00-3:00 pm, Monday-Friday in order to better limit the amount of activity and interaction within the space.
  • Please contact Lab Services at 206.543.8869 if you have any questions or concerns.

UW Poster and Photography

  • UW Poster & Photo is currently open and providing photography, poster and signage services.  In-studio portraits and limited on-location photography is available Monday-Wednesday, 9:00-4:00. Posters and signage ordered online, are available for pick up Monday-Wednesday, by appointment only.  All services are provide in compliance of COVID guidelines. Scientific Instruments

  • Scientific Instruments (SI) are an essential group at the UW, and therefore are fully operational.  They are actively involved in assisting UW Medicine with its COVID-19 patient surge by; helping the outlying clinics redeploy medical equipment, and helping the hospitals with their added load of equipment testing and maintenance.  If you questions please contact the SI main line, 206-543-5580, or email at biomed@uw.edu, drop-ins are on a limited basis.

Health Sciences Library

  • All UW Libraries, including the Health Sciences Library, are closed until further notice.  Please visit the UW Libraries COVID-19 website for remote resources and service information.

Standardized Patient Program

  • The UW Standardized Patient Program currently has a pool of Zoom-trained Standardized Patient role-players (SPs) who are able to participate in online teaching simulations in Health Sciences.  Please contact Jennie Struijk, janim@uw.edu for more information about the program, usage and costs.

Custodial Services

  • HSAS&F is working closely with the Custodial team to manage special room access requests to clean, disinfect and sanitize these spaces after each use.
  • Custodial staffing and services are currently limited with resources focused on public restrooms, hallway trash/recycle/compost containers for pickup, and sanitizing high-touch points in public spaces (door handles, staircases handrails, elevator buttons, water fountains, counters, furniture etc.) at least through April 7.
